Cheapest transformation ever!

A while back, I found this bench at a local thrift store for $5.00. I debated on it, but decided it needed too much work. Of course, once I got home, my mind starting running with the possibilities! I mean, how could I go wrong with 5 bucks? Well, I booked it back there the next day, hoping with all my might there was no one else out there who was as crazy as me to want this amazing piece of junk! Low and behold I drove in a saw it sitting there, just waiting for me! :) I didn't waste any time this time around and went right up to the cash register to pay for it! Much to my surprise and delight, the guy at the register says $2.54 please! I couldn't believe it, they were running a sale! Now, I really couldn't go wrong!
Here's a before picture of my little gem :)
At this point, I must confess I drove it home, and in true funky junk style plopped it by the entry to our home, threw a couple baskets of flowers on it and let it sit for a few weeks while I contemplated what I was going to do with it. That was until I found this for inspiration from one of my favorite blogs, Funky Junk Interiors!
A couple months ago we picked up some free deck wood from some nice people off craigslist and it's been sitting on the side of the barn for a while now slowly being used for different projects. I debated on whether I wanted to attempt to make a cushion for it, but then realized how expensive that can get! That's when I saw the pallet wood bench from funky junk interiors and decided my old deck wood would work just great!
So I got to work cutting several boards to fit the seat.

After A nap time and some work "after mommy hours" I had all the boards cut, screws tightened, and the bench de-spider webbed!
Day 2 was spent painting it white with left-overs from projects around the house. yay! No cost there!
I still need to attach the boards give em a little sanding and I have a plan for some really amazing pillows, but for now I'm pretty proud of my bench that only cost me $2.54!

'

Just wait until you see the pillows I'm planning on making this week from old laundry bags I found at a thrift store for $1 each!

I picked out boards that had stamping on them specifically. I love how it says Grand Rapids MI! It really gives the bench some great character. I think the knots are fantastic too!

Here's one last look at the transformation!
