old door + bench

I love old doors! There are so many possibilities when it comes to re purposing them. I makes my head spin a little especially when I start looking through blogs and find things like this.
So cool! Or this

and this...
so beautiful!  I love the chippy paint.

So with some elbow grease and a little creativity this is what I came up with!

I had no clue what I wanted to do with my door when I first got it, so I decided to start sanding and see what happened. I sanded along the edges pretty heavily to reveal the dark wood beneath, along with a tan-ish color as well. When I finished sanding, I applied a dark walnut stain and then wiped it off creating an aged look. At around this point is when I saw a picture online of a bench attached to a door to form a sort of coat tree-seating area. I was in luck too because I had a piano bench, which saved a lot of time building a bench.

I painted the bottom of the bench white and used the same distressing technique with the stain. I then stained and used polyurethane to seal the top of the bench. I attached some hooks I found at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 off and after some help from my carpenter dad screwing the bench to the door, I had a beautiful repurposed and funky coat tree and bench combo!

The aged look of the door knob makes me smile!

I had so much fun making this pillow from left over fabric from my laundry bag pillows, tree wrap thrifty find and a button made from a tree branch! The button was so easy to make. Cut, drill and thread! I found the idea for this here on one of my favorite blogs, Funky Junk Interiors

I love this door bench I almost don't want to sell it at the Kenowa Barn Market

  3. Very good. I think an old door is art, leaning, refurbish, heck junkers just like old doors.
